Botley School Remote Learning Plan: Music
Music During Remote Learning
We believe that music plays an important role in wellbeing and creativity. We encourage pupils to engage with music at home during periods of remote learning.
Singing and Playing at Home:
We hope you find some fun things to sing and play!
Online Resources:
- Sing Up at Home: Sing Up at Home is a fantastic resource with a huge song bank. You can browse silly songs, relaxing songs, and empowering songs, depending on your mood. Lyrics and backing tracks are all available. This is a great place to start!
- Musical Instruments: Explore the world of musical instruments! There are links for music lessons and chances to learn body percussion, beatboxing, and all sorts of musical activities.
- Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra: The Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra has created amazing instrumental work for children. There are 13 short videos where you can learn about different instruments and participate in musical activities. Learn about the violin, flute, woodwind instruments, the whole orchestra, and beyond!
Pirates Ahoy! // Part 1
Ahoy there! Join Pirate Captain Awesome Al and the salty seadog crew of the Barnacle Bill as they sail the seven seas in search of musical treasure! The sun is shining, and it's all smooth sailing on an empty sea - what could possibly go wrong?!
Activities and Exploration:
- Singing: Sing along to your favourite songs, explore different genres, or try learning a new song from Sing Up at Home.
- Playing: If you have any instruments at home, now is a great time to practice or learn something new. Even simple percussion instruments like pots and pans can be fun!
- Listening: Listen to a variety of music. Explore different composers, styles, and cultures.
- Creating: Try composing your own music! You can use online music creation tools or simply experiment with sounds around your home.
- Body Percussion: Learn some body percussion rhythms and create your own musical patterns.
Encouraging Participation:
We encourage parents to support their children's musical exploration by:
- Creating a musical environment at home.
- Singing and playing along with them.
- Encouraging them to explore different types of music.
- Celebrating their musical achievements.
Communication and Support:
Music teachers will share additional musical activity ideas and resources through the class Teams page or via Tapestry (for Early Years). They will also be available to answer questions and provide support.
