The Art Room is a programme that uses art to support children and young people's wellbeing and mental health. |
Through creative expression, children and young people can explore their feelings, identity and relationships.
We help children and young people grow in confidence and develop the social skills they need to engage in learning and thrive in life.
Place2Be's Art Room team have developed a series of creative resources for teachers and parents or carers to use with children. Our Activities from The Art Room offer creative projects that can help children and adults during lockdown to nurture their relationship whilst having fun making art together.
Activity 1 - Heart beats
Shut your eyes and tune into your heart beat.
Can you feel it?
To make this easier, put your hand over your heart, or you can jump or dance to help you find it.
Activity 2- On the lookout...
Go for a walk near your home or in your garden and try to spot three new things.
Why did you think you've never noticed these things before?
Activity 3 - Ninja Challenge
Imagine you're a ninja.
Your senses are on high alert. How quietly can you move?
What sounds can you hear more clearly?
Activity 1 - Draw me a song
Put some music on and listen very carefully.
What shapes and colours pop into your mind?
Try to draw how the music makes you feel.
Activity 2 - Garden art
Shoes on, it's time to go in the garden.
Find some petals and leaves and use them to make a pattern.
What colours can you see?
What smells can you smell?
Can you do this with twigs or anything else?
Activity 3 - Water melodies...
Fill some drinking glasses with different amounts of water.
Wet your finger and lightly rub it round the rim of the glasses.
What beautiful music can you make?
Activity 4 - Scribble art!

Start at your toes and work all the way up to your face.
Do you feel more relaxed?

Now blow the candles out, one at a time.
Why not imagine each candle is a worry and blow them all away.

What does it feel like?

How has the way you feel changed?

Once you've all shared, celebrate whats makes you, you!
