In March 2020, Botley School joined The Acer Trust, a multi-academy trust. This partnership provided opportunities for collaboration with other schools, access to shared resources, and professional development for staff. Shortly after joining the trust, the school, along with the rest of the country, entered a period of lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The school remained open throughout the lockdown for the children of key workers, while also providing remote learning for all other pupils. This period highlighted the dedication and resilience of the school community, with staff adapting quickly to new ways of teaching and parents supporting their children's learning at home.
In 2022, the school celebrated Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee by planting over 450 trees as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative. This project not only enhanced the school’s environment but also provided a valuable learning opportunity for pupils about the importance of trees and biodiversity. Following the Queen's death later that year and the subsequent coronation of King Charles III, the school community joined the nation in mourning and celebration, reflecting on the historical significance of these events.
Recent years have also seen a significant focus on sustainability. New energy-saving LED lighting has been installed throughout the school as part of ongoing energy-saving goals. This initiative is driven by the school's dedicated Energy Champions, a group of pupils who are actively involved in promoting energy conservation and environmental awareness within the school.
Botley School is committed to inclusive education and has developed an Enhanced Pathway for SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) children. This pathway provides tailored support and resources to ensure that all pupils can reach their full potential, regardless of their individual needs. The school works closely with parents and external agencies to provide the best possible support for SEND pupils.
Botley School and The Acer Trust are also deeply committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). This commitment is reflected in various initiatives, including staff training on unconscious bias and inclusive practices, curriculum development that celebrates diversity and promotes understanding, and the creation of a welcoming and inclusive environment for all pupils, staff, and families. The school strives to ensure that everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of their background, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or disability. This commitment to DEI is woven into the fabric of the school's culture and informs all aspects of school life.
