Sustainability
Our Mission
Botley School is committed to reducing our environmental impact and fostering a culture of sustainability. We have developed a comprehensive Climate Action Plan covering energy, food, waste, nature, and the curriculum.
Our Impact & Data
-
Carbon Footprint: As of November 2024, our school's carbon footprint is 304 tonnes CO2e per year.
-
Key Areas: Our biggest environmental impacts come from gas consumption, travel, and school uniforms.
-
Success Story: Our electricity consumption is already low, thanks to our solar panels and energy-efficient LED lighting.
Current Initiatives
1. Energy & Recycling (Eco Champions)
-
Goal: We reduced our electricity consumption by 5% over December 2024 to December 2025, and our gas consumption by 10% for the same period. Our current goal is to reduce both by a further 2%.
-
Action: Our student "Eco Champions" are leading a campaign to improve recycling across the school. This includes a recent poster competition and whole-school assemblies to clarify what can and cannot be recycled.
2. Nature & Curriculum
-
Forest School: Our established Forest School program ensures deep engagement with nature for all pupils.
-
Future Plans: We are exploring joining The National Education Nature Park and conducting a full curriculum audit to better support staff in teaching environmental issues.
