Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.

Welcome from our Chair and Vice Chair

Dear Parents and Carers,

As Chair and Vice-Chair of Governors, it gives us great pleasure to welcome you to Botley School. We hope your children will enjoy being part of our thriving, supportive and inclusive school, and we hope you will too.

We would like to give you some background information about the role School Governors play, who we are and what we do. As governors, we support staff at the school to ensure that all children receive the education that they deserve and help them achieve their maximum potential . We have the following functions:

  1. We work alongside the Headteacher and the senior leadership team to help shape the strategic direction for Botley School and set its priorities for each academic year;
  1. We support the Headteacher and senior leadership team in driving those priorities forward and challenge and review progress against those priorities;
  2. We oversee the School’s financial performance and make sure that the budget is well spent;
  3. We ensure that our School runs in a smooth, safe, efficient and legal way

We meet as a whole Governing Body six times a year. In addition to this, we have sub-committees which focus on key aspects of the School’s functioning, including Safeguarding, Financial Strategy and Resources, and Health and Safety.  Much of our work is done in these sub-committees, which meet regularly each term. As well as these specific roles, we visit the school regularly to review and monitor progress against the School's improvement plan and to support events and special days that the School puts on throughout the year.

Being a governor is a fascinating and fulfilling role and parent governors , who are elected by the entire parent body and usually serve for four years, make up a part of the governing body.  If you might be interested in becoming a parent governor, please let us know.

We very much hope that you enjoy being part of Botley School and if there is anything we can help with at any time, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Ben Potter (Chair) and Sue Miller (Vice-Chair)
