How does ‘simple’ become ‘simply’?

When a word ending in -le is turned into an adverb, the suffix -ly is added. The ‘e’ is removed.

Activities:

  1. Split the words into 2 groups of 3 and a group of 4 e.g. Group 1 - possibly, prickly, wiggly. Pick a group, read the words carefully and then turn them over. How many times can you write the words in a minute. You might need help setting a timer. Check that you have spelt the words correctly. What is your score? Can you beat your record? Repeat this with each group.
  2. Complete the 'What am I?' activity.
  3. Can you find the mistakes in 'The Loose Tooth'. No peeping at the answers.
